The pressure calibration is required in all the instruments using pressure measurements and this is actually found out by comparing the reading of a pressure measuring device with another device which is set as the standard or reference point to ensure that the device is giving accurate results. If it gives the same results as the standard, then the device is said to be calibrated but if not then pressure calibration needs to be performed. pressure calibration is not just done by measuring single reading and comparing to the standard, but usually two to three reading is performed, one at the lowest, one at highest and one in between, if all of these are exactly the same as displayed by the reference pressure calibration device then it is accepted to measure the pressure.
Uses of the pressure calibration:
NM1:
There is an institution of national metrology in every country where the standard pressure calibration devices are placed and the pressure on these is measured according to the internationally defined system of units. This unit is same throughout the world and therefore, if some pressure calibration device is placed in USA then it would have the same reading as the one placed in the NMI of Australia.
Laboratories:
NMI gives out the standard pressure calibration devices to various laboratories across the country so that people from the industry using the pressure calibrations in their measurements could go to the nearby laboratory either to get a standard pressure calibration device to calibrate their instruments by themselves or to take their instruments there and ask some of the professional there to calibrate it for them. These laboratories usually have high performance pressure calibrators which provide the accurate results with consistency.
Secondary labs:
These labs are also known as the calibration shops for various kind of the instruments. Although these labs are only used to perform the basic tests with the help of the basics instruments such as the pressure gauges, transducers etc. These labs are associated with the primary labs in order to maintain the standard pressure calibration. If some device requires high quality pressure calibrator, then it is send to the primary lab.
Onsite pressure calibration:
Most of the times the devices and the instruments used in the industries are fixed in their places and cannot be moved or taken to any of the labs or the calibration shop for calibration and therefore, for this purpose the people have their own pressure calibration device which is purchased from one of the above places and the people are trained there to calibrate the device and use the standard pressure calibration.
Manufacturing process of the other pressure calibration devices:
Along with all the above the pressure calibration is also used during the manufacturing of the pressure measuring device to test whether the device manufactured has the accurate design to give the right reading every time.
